It’s a big month in your favourite beachside city. Birds of Tokyo are on tour and playing at the Surfers Paradise Beergarden, SeaFire is lighting up the sky, there’s a Picnic in the Park, and plenty more! Check out our five must-dos for June.
1. WATCH BIRDS OF TOKYO AT SURFERS PARADISE BEERGARDEN
Dark and dystopic is how Birds of Tokyo’s latest album, Brace, has been described. Fresh from winning their APRA award for Best Rock Work, Birds of Tokyo are on tour with just a handful of shows announced in Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW. Supported by Brisbane punk outfit Colombus, Birds of Tokyo will be performing live at one of Surfers Paradise’s best entertainment venues, the Surfers Paradise Beergarden, June 1. Atmospheric and cinematic, don’t miss the opportunity to see Brace – an album created to be played live.
2. SEE THE SKIES LIGHT UP AT SEAFIRE
It’s the soundtrack, the atmosphere, and of course the spectacular lightshow that makes SeaFire an annual ritual for so many. Get your spot on the beach this year for another dazzling display of fireworks above the ocean, this time with two internationally acclaimed pyrotechnic teams – one from Beijing the other from London – battling it out for the best show imaginable. A live band and intermission entertainment brought to you by Gold Coast Skydive makes the whole night an experience to remember. June 3 on Surfers Paradise Beach.
3. ENJOY TAPAS AND WINE AT PICNIC IN THE PARK
The night after SeaFire, Lionel Perry Park, in the heart of Surfers Paradise, will be hosting a massive community Picnic in the Park with UberEats hand delivering a huge array of local treats from Surfers Paradise restaurants. Cheese, antipasto plates, wine masterclasses, the Gold Coast’s best musicians and plenty of kids activities – oh my! The best way to enjoy the start of winter on the coast is outside under the sun with a picnic blanket on the grass. Lock in June 4 and bring partners, families, friends and more.
4. GET SOME GOOD KARMA AT SECOND CHANCES FUNDRAISER
Hosted by the long-standing and legendary Surfers Paradise venue, The Avenue, Second Chances Fundraiser is all about raising funds for The Prince Charles Hospital’s Transplant Research Centre, a centre that has made considerable breakthroughs in the often live-saving areas of Transplant. Live music, roving magicians and massage angels – yes massage angels – will be inspiring you to purchase tickets in the mega raffle with great prizes to be won. Entry to the event is by donation, on June 11. The only requirement: come with a smile and positive energy!
5. WATCH WAITSTAFF GO HEAD TO HEAD AT THE SURFERS PARADISE WAITERS CHALLENGE
Food, wine and waiters are a match made in heaven. Throw in the ultimate obstacle challenge for charity and you’ve got one helluva day! Waitstaff from all over Surfers Paradise are taking each other on as they tackle a heap of difficult obstacles to raise funds for Variety, the Children’s Charity for children in need. Hugely entertaining and all for a very good cause, come and watch the shenanigans in Cavill Mall on June 24.
