Cosy comforts: 5 things to do in winter on the GC

There’s something about the beach in winter. Crowds have dispersed, the air is fresh and the bars across the way beckon with cosy interiors and comfort foods. We’ve rounded up five of our favourite things to do on the Gold Coast when the weather turns on that winter chill.

  1. Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets at dusk
Throw a big old scarf on just as the sun is setting and make your way to the markets with the most – the most scenic views that is. More than 100 quality lifestyle market stalls stretch out along the Surfers Paradise foreshore, just metres from the sand and surf. Live entertainers set the tone while the landscape does the rest. Check the markets out every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights, 4pm-9pm.
  1. Winter cocktails and warm brie at Black Coffee Lyrics
This little gem has been filling cups for a while now, but there is something extra indulgent about sharing a quality espresso martini and crumbed brie with mango chutney and toasted ciabatta in the moody surrounds of Black Coffee Lyrics – who were recently voted by the public as one of the top ten best bars on the Gold Coast.
  2. Hot air balloon ride over the hinterlands
Oh we know – so cliché – but have you ever done the hot air balloon thing? Don’t save it for special occasions (or fantasy proposals) why not just grab a loved one and make for the skies? Hot Air Balloon Gold Coast take you on a spectacular journey over Tamborine Mountain and Lamington National Park. A little bubbles and a hot breakfast at O’Reilly’s Vineyard makes this winter date totally insta-worthy.
  1. Weekend live music at Chevron Renaissance
Chevron Renaissance has a host of live music acts over May that set the scene for a cool and casual night out, and the centre happens to be home to some now famous eats, like Baritalia, Betty’s Burgers and El Patio De Cuba (hello and welcome to Cuba, here, have seat at the rum bar). Music starts from 5.30pm, check the roster out here.
  2. Fish ‘n’ chips rugged up on the beach
Is there anything better? Grab your favourite picnic blanket, put on your uggs, throw a book in your bag and head down to Surfers Paradise beach to enjoy piping hot fish ‘n’ chips on the sand, with views of the ocean ahead and the sky above. Company at your discretion!
