Highly sought after hair and makeup artist Jasmine Amey has plenty of awards to her name and two thriving businesses, including one exclusively for bridal transformations. We sat down with Jasmine to get the lowdown on the latest bridal trends and how you can look like a star on your big day!
Q. Jasmine your talents have led to the creation of two businesses, one which is the Amey Hair and Makeup salon, and the other specifically for brides – Tiara Bridal Artistry. What do you love most about working with brides?
A. To be able to work with brides and help them find the perfect style on the biggest day of their life is an absolute honour! I love to see a bride’s face as she sees herself for the first time and all the anxiousness melts away. You see their heart fill with joy, as they know the moment they have waited for their whole life has arrived, and I have been there to create this angelic bride. This is the moment that brings me so much happiness and I think to myself, I love what I do!
Q. What trends are we seeing this year with hair and makeup styling for brides?
A. This year things have gone from boho to timeless romance. Up-styles that are low key and simplistic with cascading curls, or even just a simple blowout can enhance a bride’s inner beauty. Makeup styles have been stripped back to a more natural glow, contoured structure with nude lips that have a hint of pink. Lash extensions are an added feature that we can do to define your look and ensure you have no panda eyes.
Of course, we would recommend getting pampered the day before your wedding as this always helps with bridal transformations! Unwind and enjoy The Amey Remedy signature facial with skin care exclusive to Amey and Tiara! Australian made products with native and organic ingredients that will leave you felling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Q. What is your advice for the bride-to-be, when considering what she wants for hair and makeup on her wedding day?
A. It is so important to be true to your own sense of style instead of being convinced into something you wouldn’t want to see in a picture 20 years down the track! You need to consider the season, dress style, neckline, hair length, hair thickness and location. If there is a look you have always dreamed of doing and you aren’t even considering it as you think your hair is too short or fine, I’m here to let you know there is usually a way to achieve it through hair extensions, padding, hair pieces etc. It is a good idea to have a trial prior to the big day so we can work all this out for you!
Q. What about the dress – how important is styling hair and makeup to the dress?
A. Styling hair and makeup to the dress is extremely important as your hairstyle can help to balance your silhouette and will complement your features. Your hair and makeup must be appropriate to the theme and must all tie together. E.g. you can’t have a rockabilly hairstyle with geisha makeup in a princess-style dress!
Q. Your specialty is “transformations”. What is your process for each individual, do you enjoy getting to know a client to be able to externalise her inner beauty?
A. When it comes to a transformation it is so important for me to understand my client’s personality and lifestyle! I need to know if they exercise, dine out, have children, swim etc. I like to create a new look that is glamorous but also practical for their everyday life. Their style must be something that can be recreated at home as well, because there is nothing worse than walking out of a salon looking fantastic, and then you can’t seem to keep up the style yourself at home!
Q. Have you ever needed to persuade a client to perhaps avoid a certain style or makeup trend, and let them trust you to work your magic?
A. There have been a few times when I have had to politely persuade clients to try something a little different to what they were initially wanting. Sometimes what we see on someone else may not be great for another and it is crucial to have someone like myself to give some constructive criticism. We can always find a way to make things work we just may have to tweak a little!
Q. If you could name five essential items to have with you on your wedding day to maintain your pristine look, what would they be?
A. Lipstick, powder, beauty blender, small hair spray and tissues!!!
Q. Any celebrities worth channeling this year when considering your bridal look?
A. Eniko Parish had such incredible hair and makeup that was current, timeless, flawless and elegant! Kevin Hart is a lucky man!
