Looking for a few quick updates to the home this season? Autumn is all about welcoming cooler weather and bringing the earthy outdoors, in. Some simple homeware purchases can give your space an instant update for the coming months.
It’s all about that luxurious velvet this season! A couple of good quality velvet cushions on the couch or bed will go a long way, or a velvet footstool atop a rug can bring this season’s must have item into your space in no time. Dark greens are a big colour trend for 2017 and an investment in a couple of velvet green pieces will have year-long appeal.
- Autumn Colours
Along with dark greens, add earthy yellows and blues where you can – turmeric, muted saffron and cinnamon, plum or petrol blue are the season’s colours. Whether towels or throws, these colours can be injected into a living space, bedroom or bathroom.
- Analogue Clock
It used to be all about sleek, cutting edge digital elements but this season has turned back time and analogue is back in a big way. Think handcrafted, dark wood antique clocks to either hang somewhere or leave on a side table with an autumn-inspired cinnamon scented candle to complete the look.
- Vintage Lamp
A little warm light can make a living room instantly cozy. Much like the analogue comeback, the re-emergence of vintage lamps can give any living room a sense of old world timeliness. Look out for wooden or brass bases with a seasonal colour for the shade.
Would you believe terracotta has made a huge comeback this year? The earthy robustness of terracotta lends itself to autumn beautifully and a couple of terracotta pots for your indoor plants can be an easy and cheap addition to the home. These pots look particularly good with cactus plants for that desert roamer feel, if that’s more your look (and still a very popular trend for this year!)
- Artisan Elements
Pick up a few handcrafted, artisan fabric elements from your local markets. Think of patterns like embroidery, knitting and crochet pieces to hang or throw on your couch or bed. The use of different fabrics layered up or featured on a wall is a definite trend for the warmer months.
