Doner done right, indeed. Shiraz Moderna is the upmarket Persian takeout you’ve needed in your life. The house-made chicken doner served in a Turkish pocket bread with sautéed mushrooms, capsicum, onion and tomato sauce, and drizzled with Moderna’s mayo-herb sauce, is a doner done so right, it could never be wrong.
4. Lamb Shank Penne Pasta @ Alfresco Italian Restaurant
Just in time for winter, everyone’s favourite Italian in Surfers Paradise has added the ultimate pasta dish, featuring slow cooked lamb shank with penne in a rich homemade tomato sauce. Bellissimo!
5. Any Steak Off The Menu @ Hurricane’s Grill
And we mean any steak! Hurricane’s Grill Surfers Paradise is THE place to go for a beautifully cooked steak to your liking, and we can’t go past a good flame grilled Rib Eye in original basting, with a hot baked potato and mushroom sauce on the side. Ahh, winter.
6. Ravioli @ Salt Meats Cheese
The Italian delicatessen specialists are starting a revolution around the country, from Sydney to the Gold Coast, and a soon-to-be Brisbane base, this family owned powerhouse know how to make authentic Italian to drool over. The spinach and cheese ravioli with burnt butter sauce and sage is just one of many perfect pastas on the menu.
7. Buffalo Wings @ House of Brews
If anyone knows how to do comfort food, it’s the good old USA. House of Brews brings you buffalo chicken wings with all the right sides: blue cheese sauce and carrot sticks. Choose from original, American, smoky BBQ, or our favourite, spicy, for the basting. Hot and delicious, as they should be.
8. Sanuki-Udon @ Kawaii Japanese Curry
Oh yes, it exists. A little specialty shop tucked away on Surfers Paradise Boulevard featuring authentic Japanese curry, ‘with a taste so genuine, you’ll think you’re in Japan!” Well priced and true to their word, the curries here are not just winter-worthy, they’re good all year round. The Sanuki-Udon is particularly amazing, but pick your own and say kon’nichiwa to your new fav dish.
9. Gourmet Pizzas @ Clifford’s Grill & Lounge
You can get plenty of pizza around the place but Clifford’s Grill & Lounge sure do them right. The Byron Bay Inferno with salami, buffalo mozzarella and roasted chilli, or the Calzone with prosciutto, smoked mozzarella, tomato passata and rocket, combine simple ingredients together to maximise on flavour. Best enjoyed with company!
